You know Sparty....this post just brought up something that I have been seriously been procrastinating on for some time. I guess about 6 or so months ago,I started a list of expensises plus a list of extra parts.....old usables from the bike, crap from Ebay not being used,etc....It might take awhile but one day soon,I will post a half ass answer to your question. In closing,I would like to add that like most everyone else here that answered this post said.....It will never be done....there will always be something else to add or do to make it better or right..........GOD I LOVE THIS HOBBY!!!!

Aussies.
Now seeing that this Pro Quo is all about spending loot just to satisify our egos (Hobby) I need to spend more as I feel as if I am lagging in the spending thing.
I need a rear wheel in VG condition with a good chrome rim and spokes.
OK No one has one I shall just sell my stamp collection my model railway / railroad and my scuba gear to buy a new set of SS spokes and also a new chrome 18inch rim
Offers Terry?

I started keeping track initially, then stopped. My theory as to how much you can invest in, say a 750, goes like this. When they first came out, they were around $1400. Out of curiosity, I went to one of those inflation conversion sites to see what that would be in today's $$'s. I seem to recall that was in the $7-8,000 range. So, we should be guilt-free up to that point anyway.  ;)

I like your way of thinking. I have some idea of what I've invested but I really don't want to know for sure.

Thank you for the kind words.

I took the stock seat, removed the cover and sculpted the seat foam into the shape I wanted. I sent the foam and seat pan, which I previously had had blasted and powder coated, to Sargent Cycle and they did the rest. They used the foam shape I sent them as a base, and layered on top new foam (more for comfort than for the design). I paid about $300. It's a bit much, I know, but I wanted a certain look to the seat and I did not like the chopped cafe racer style seat.

Man, It turned out great.  Awesome job on the whole bike.

Ignorance is bliss. :D

All I know for sure is I've spent much more on my cb350f rebuild than I will ever get back out of it.

RSV,

Can you post a few detailed pics of the seat.  I was planning on sending my seat to Sargent this winter.  I spoke with them and they said that they could build me a custom job for around $300.

I was just looking at my spreadsheet this morning.  Looks like I am into it about $1350 at this point, purchase price and title transfer included.  I estimate $750-1000 more before I am "done".

I have about $12,000 in the sandcast....including the purchase price.  :o
Unfortunately, I am not happy with just having a bike run well.  ::) That's
10 times what I paid for the diecast in 1969.

Jim, I hate to think what I have spent on my little bike, probably MEGAKKKKs and it only cost £183 new in the early 60s

I don't think we would have it any other way because we love these bikes so it doesn't really matter how much they cost. Its kinda like loving a woman. You can go into heavy ass debt to put a big rock on her finger but its more than worth it just to see her walking around glowing over it!!!!!(Know what I mean???)

i tallied up my receipts around the time i got my 550 put back together and on the road, and it was at around $1500, including the purchase of bike itself ($200). powdercoat, new bearings everywhere, new seals everwhere, SS screws for the engine, homemade fiberglass seat and exhaust silencer, new tires, new 16" rear rim and SS spoke kit, dyna-s, etc. since then, i've added SS brake lines ($103 for a dual disk setup), boge progressive shocks ($50), and a few extras, but can't have possibly passed $1800.

good thing elbow grease is free, huh? sheesh.
