A different way to mount drag bars.
« on: July 26, 2006, 02:39:02 PM »
Over the next few days, I will be mounting my new drag bars after I have them powder coated.  I was just in the garage and I pulled off the stock bars and put on the drag bars to see how they fit.  They fit fine and look okay.  I sat on the bike an I like the way they feel, but I like them better when thay are mounted on a slight downward angle.  They look more cafe like and are pretty comfortable.  Has anyone ever mounted their drag bars this way?  BTW, They clear the tank just fine at full lockout.

mine are mounted with a slight downward turn - i also tried different angles - found that the steeper the angle the more awkward working the levers became...something to think about...

i believe that you will find there is also a problem with MC clearance if you go to far with it...

That's what I found on my 500 when I tried it.

cb,

No problem with the MC because I purchased a new sportbike remote MC.  I thought ahead on that issue after reading previous posts.  The new MC should also improve my front brake feel.  Plus, the new grips that I bought are a 1/2 shorter than standard, which should help create a bit more room.  I'll just cut a 1/2 off my plastic throttle and the grip will fit fine.  I really wanted clipons, but the work involved in putting them on is just too much right now.  My drag bras came from loudfastugly.
