white gunk
« on: May 06, 2013, 08:28:27 AM »
just took bike for a ride while in the process of dialing in main jets and needle heights, running good, but I noticed what looks like water coming out of valve cover vent hose, just for the heck of it I blocked the end with my finger for a second and then a good size blob of white gunk came out, never seen that before and don't have a clue the clear liquid doesn't smell like gas but where could all the water if it is come from?

That is normal in every engine. It is condensation condensing.
Cold engine and hot air mix.

If you attach a clear hose to the breather you can see the condensation.
Make sure that if you have a breather air/oil separator that it is not clogged up.

Depending on how long the bike sat and in what kind of weather it could simply be that condensation built up inside the engine.  I know you were doing some other stuff with this bike, but I can't remember if you said you'd done an oil change or not.  Might be in order... or it might just need to be ridden a bit to clear it out.  If you used seafoam or something like that I guess that could add to it as well.  It's been rainy as hell here, and it seemed like you got some in MA? Condensation causing some water to build up in the engine is my bet, once it's running it might have frothed it up with the oil giving you some white gunk... not sure though.

Maybe a picture of it?
