« on: May 08, 2013, 07:11:29 AM »

I dont mind buying larger and cut to my needs.

Yellow pages.. Any fab shop that does brewery or restaurant stuff.

A lot though will mark up enough that the shipping might not have been bad. Is there. A Metal supermarket near you?

W used to get 4-5 foot  pieces of steel at a yard in Seattle that got leftovers from shipbuilding. Sorry I don't know the place but it was north of Ballard and just off the interstate near downtown probably to the north of Seattle.  I didn't know my way around at the time but I know it was not far from a downtown elevated part of the interstate.

What about using a sink or old gas grill or kitchen appliance? I've looked at some of those as sources for stainless.  I guess there's no way of telling exactly what alloy is in those unless the manufacture would provide information.

I just bought some from a company for work. It was a custom sheet metal place surely there should be somebody in your area another is suggestion would be heating and air distributor lowes, Home Depot,or any other hardware store

There's also Metal Werks (fab shop) in Marysville but I don't know if they sell pieces. Might be worth a call.

Hey I've got a grill lid that I have thought I would eventually use for something but it just sits in the yard. I have only used it to cover up a fire that I was burning to try to turn a stump to ash and it discolored it.

I could prolly cut you a piece, no tellin what alloy or thickness but there's a micrometer around.

What are you making from it ?
using a previously drawn piece, then cutting it is asking for trouble, unless you are using the profile it has. Reason being , lots of internal stresses and thickness can vary a lot.

I have a pipe that my friend's brother did with a little stainless patch and it looks great.  It's going on my 350f at some point not only should it work well with the 400f collector just because the patch is where it 's been  dragged around a race track.

A friend is busy getting stuff together for a garage sale and I keep an eye on her trash just to make sure nothing useful is going away.  On top was a piece of metal from a picture frame or small box that looks to be stainless. And then there's the bar-b-q, which would seem about right thickness for parching a pipe.

I'm not quite a welder yet  buy there was a thread about the one member who does some nice   laser welding.

I think the place Jason took me might have been West Seattle.  If you like to look at metal it was as good as any.  They used to call him when they got nice sized  new  trimmings . Most were the size of a half sheet of plywood . Jason was the tortured genius behind the Fabricators of the Attachment.  Tragic  life story.
