CB400F carb rebuild manual.
« on: May 02, 2013, 08:01:13 PM »
Hi folks, I'm in the process of rebuilding my carbs after tearing them down  completely and cleaning them.

For the disassembly I used a manual called Carb Rebuild 101 by Tim Boughen. I'm wondering if there's something similar for the reassembly.

If not I have a few questions:

Do the main jets have a side to them?

Also to set the carb floats the 22 mm should be measured with the hinge in a 12 o' clock position or how?

I'm terribly lost, but I can't use neither of the forum search options nor through google.

Thanks in advance!

Main jets have a side. Look at both ends, one is recessed more that goes out. The other side inserted into carb body. If you bought new kits then you can just put the part with the oring in the body.

Not really following on the 12 o'clock position thing. When the tang on the float just touches the valve is what you want.

Jore,

I don't understand, Tim's walk-through guide has great photos and details, if you followed it taking it apart you should be able to follow it putting everything back together no? That's what I did.

Regardless, perhaps there's some info here that will help you:

Thanks, those are really helpful.

As for the 12 o'clock position I meant, that if you hold the carb with the float hinge perpendicular to floor level it, the hinge should be in the same position as the 12 on a clock.

Hey guys, I'm bench syncing my carbs, somewhere I read that you could use a 1/8th drill bit for the slide adjusting, my question is:

From what side do you use the bit, front or back?

To me it seems like the back side (the one that goes to the engine) is the way to go, but still I'd rather ask before doing something stupid.
