1980 CB750 neck bearing swap?
« on: May 22, 2013, 02:13:24 PM »
I finally started putting my honda chopper together.  My frame was made by Cycle One Manufacturing with a honda neck.  My donor tree is from a 1980 CB750 and doesnt fit.  According to this link: http://hondachopper.yuku.com/topic/2755#.UZ0t6KX_e75 The lower bearing is larger and the upper bearing is smaller than the 70 series bearings.  Can I replace these bearings with 70's bearings or do I need a different tree?

Thanks.

The '80 CB750 was the DOHC bike, which is probably why they don't fit. If you go to the All Balls website they have a chart that shows which bearings you will need to adapt a fork from one bike to another.

If you input the swap as a 1980 CB750 to a 1978 CB750 that should get you what you need.

Here's a better chopper site for your DOHC.

http://www.deuceswilddohc.com/

Hondachopper.com STRICTLY deals with SOHC (69-78) CB750s  ONLY.   They'll spank your PP if you even ask about DOHCs and the lock/delete .

Call KATE at Cycle one and ask her if the frame has a HONDA neck for SOHC bearings?? There is a difference between bearing race OD sizes on SOHCs and DOHCs
