75 cb750 plug question
« on: June 06, 2013, 07:53:14 PM »
I'm running Harley coils automotive plug wires the carbs are jetted and set to run pods and pamco ignition. Tonight I thought I would take my plugs out and check them 1&2 plugs where a little sooty 3&4 looked good the bike runs fine but tonight it was acting a little sluggish. So I thought I would look at the plugs beings I haven't done anything with them for awhile. What does the sooty plugs mean. The electrodes seemed shorter than 3&4 could that be some of the problem. Like I said it ran fine no problems other than a little backfire out of one he carbs every 10-15 miles. (Pods I know). I'm getting ready to get some new plug wires. Thanks for any input

Wet sooty means rich, dry burned means lean.
Also, knowing where what and how to tune depends on riding conditions before you pulled the plugs.  Hard wot riding or idling in the drive?
If you find your coil wires and caps are not to par, you might want to start there, first, then recheck your plugs.

You did not tell us the year.
You did not tell us what type exhaust.
You did not tell us if the bike was re jetted, which it would have to be.
