Yet another tire question
« on: June 08, 2013, 01:31:51 PM »
I know it's been asked a lot of different ways, but no simple answer.

Does anybody know from experience, Can I run a 110x90x19 (equals 4.3") on the front and 130x90x18 (equals 5.12 wide) on the back?

For use in the summer time on a road with lots of bumps, not many tight turns

Thanks

Oops, forgot to mention the essential facts, I'm running Original wheels/rims = 1.85 inch front and 2.15 rear..

both of your choices are too big for stock rims. There are plenty of threads on the forum covering this. Running large tires effects the way they wear, and changes handling for the worse. Most tire manufacturers have size charts on their websites. you would need at least a 2.5 inch front and 3.5 inch rear rim to run those sizes properly. For example, my GSXR1100J had a 2.75 inch front rim, it only wore a 110 size front, which was the correct size for that rim...

I have a 75 750 that I am running 130-90-17 on rear and 100-90-19 on the front and it handles great. I have a 630 chain and its pretty close in the rear and the front is only about a 1/4 in away from stock fender brace. That's as big as I would go safely

A good choice in modern tire sizes for the stock wheels is 100/90-19 front on the 1.85" rim, and 120/90-18 rear on the 2.15" rim, any larger and the tires will be pinched a bit too much to fit those rims, and that will result in distortion of the tire shape which will affect the way it handles, affect tire wear patterns, etc.

The guy has an 18 inch rear, and you don't mention your rim sizes , a 130 is too big for the stock 18 inch rim...

Thats basically what i said.... ;)
