Head Light Ear Shims
« on: June 14, 2013, 08:06:24 PM »
I have a set of the cast aluminum headlight brackets with the plastic shims for different size forks. I don't seem to have any for 37mm forks. Does anyone here have any or know where I might be able to find some?

Just make your own, thats what I would do, be creative
its better to regret something you have done, than something you havent.Except playing with explosives.

I think what he means is someone likely has a set.. That size is not. Used every day

754 is correct. I don't know if the set I got is missing shims for 37mm, or if it didn't come with them due to the odd ball size. I have I think 3 sets of shims, of them 2 are too small and one too big. I can't think of how to make a 1mm thick shim that won't look tacky or Mickey Moused. I'm open to suggestions.

Easy to make on a lathe, but leave a small lip , helps square it up.. Or use .040 shim stock

I'm guessing you have GL fork tubes...............for that thickness I would cut up an old inner-tube for the shim. The benefit is no direct metal contact and you don't have to over-snug the ears to keep them in place.

Scrambler, they are CB600f1 forks. I was able to cut a soda can and wrap the tube and then some high temp masking tape to secure it and it works. I hate mickey mousing it but it will do for headlight brackets.

754, how would you make them on the lathe? Make a tube then just split one side?
