ceramic coated exhaust.
« on: June 17, 2013, 06:25:43 AM »
My F model pipes are solid but pitted and blue and have a couple of dents on the bottom.  I want to get them ceramic coated in that chrome like finish.  It runs about $260 but I prefer that to an aftermarket exhaust.  What do you think?

Does the $260 include getting them media blasted? I wouldn't bother coating them unless you get them blasted beforehand.

Seems very reasonable to me.  I go for it at 260 chrome ceramic looks great and is maintenance free from what I gather.  Who in North Carolina does this kind of work?  The only places that do it that I know of are in California.

Wish I could find a NY source I would be their best customer.

Don't expect the chrome ceramic to appear like chrome plating.

I had a set of Kerker done for my racebike. It's called Titanium Grey from a company up here and it has been very tough. Not chrome like but here's a pic to see.

They bake them at high temp. to remove any carbon then apply inside & out. I come off the track & they're cool to the touch in 5 minutes. Easily cleaned, tough spots with 0000 steel wool & Varsol.

That is exactly what I would want.  How much did that job run you if you don't mind me asking?

I had mine sandblasted and coated inside and out with "satin black" ceramic for about $200.

I do offer ceramic coating in most colors but do not offer the chrome finish as it requires an expensive vibratory tumbler with about $5k worth of specific media to polish it after it is cured. In the southeast I would recommend www.autocyclepc.com, speak to Jason.
The correct media blast profile is essential and is part of the prep process that any coater will includes as part of the price. Most pro powder coating shops also do ceramics.

I had mine done with cerakote. They looked nice but I found that the finish chipped quite easily, so I wrapped over it.

They look good Brent.  If I may ask, was it a QC or ON company? (looking for a recommendation)

Improper prep most likely. The prep for ceramic is more critical than that for powder coating.

Jet-Hot has a location near Raleigh.  They did a pipe for my two stroke and it is sweet.  I would recomend them as they offer a good waranty and customer service.

They don't show Raleigh on there website. Do you have a address or phone number? They show  Burlington, NC as corporate but don't mention doing the work there.

Can anyone verify the location? I want to try the (Extreme 1300 Polished) Nikkisixx is that the color you used? I have never heard any thing bad about them. I'm the kind of guy that likes to see up close before I lay out my money. I would think they would have samples on display. I can get any where on the loop in 45minutes. No it is not chrome in some ways maybe better.

Very nice looking.  There's a guy here in Indiana that powder coated my frame and he quoted me about $14/LF to ceramic coat headers.

I had them do it in 1300 and while it doesn't look like chrome, it is sweet.  Lifetime waranty as well. Burlington is the place.  For all you tar heels, they do have drop off.

No, they are hydrodipped. Tank, seat pan and side covers.
