73 cb500 clutch adjustment
« on: June 19, 2013, 10:37:58 AM »
Didnt find much for adjustment on my bike on here or manual. Ive heard to loosen the locking bolt and turn big screw until tight and then back off a smidgen. What do you do about the adjustment on the handlebars? do you screw that adjustment all the way in or out before you adjust the big screw?

Bike is currently hard to roll out of first but doesnt slip in any gear. Ordered new friction plates and springs just in case. But i may not have adjusted it properly haha.

I think the correct procedure is to loosen both ends of the cable, turn the clutch adjuster clockwise until you feel tension, then back it off no more than an 1/8". Then adjust the cable at both ends.

However, before you do that pull apart the clutch liter mechanism and make sure that:
1: The adjuster cylinder is not cracked around the rim
2: The steel ball is in place
3: The clutch rod measures it's full 10 1/8"
