Front wheel won't spin freely.
« on: June 21, 2013, 05:32:12 PM »
So fixed my leaky fork seals and put everything back together. Just lastly put my brake caliper and tightened it down and bleeded my brakes for good measure. Now my front wheel won't spin freely at all. I tried a caliper adjustment but that didn't do anything, I assume because that's only for the static pad. It just seems like my piston is not relieving any pressure to compress back in the housing so the contact isn't constant.

Thoughts?

Stuck brake pad!  You should be able to compress the pads even with fluid.

Any thoughts how to keep it un stuck? It wasn't getting stuck before?

Good chance the speedo drive unit is not installed correctly-the tabs aren't seated...Larry

I don't think it's the speedo, once I take the caliper off it spins perfectly

Master cylinder plugged up or sticky piston in the caliper

If the speedo isn't seated right the wheel will be off center and will spin freely if the caliper is loose but when the caliper is tightened it rubs against the disc preventing the wheel from spinning.  I've never done that  ::) ::)...Larry

Interesting, other than horizontal is there anything special about the way the speedo should be placed? It isn't 100% horizontal, it's pointing up just so slightly.

Now I unfortunately broke my caliper adjustment bolt. Need to get a new bolt. Is this something I can just get at a hardware store that has the correct thread/lenght. God I hope so,

I'll try the speedo in the morning, I gave up and got frustrated tonight.

Yeah just bring the bolt along with you to a store. Probably an m6x1.0 knowing old metrics but I could be wrong with that little sucker. It will be somewhat standard so any decent hardware, nut/bolt section will have it

That is the size and a good hardware store should have one in stock...Larry

Figured it out, it was a combination of the caliper getting off center and the pad and piston sticking. Pulled the piston and thoroughly cleaned it and the pad, and then readjusted the caliper and all is good!

Speedo doesn't work  :'( Whatever. I can fix that, at least I can get out and enjoy the sun.

Thanks everyone.

Inner cable still intact? Spinning at the speedo end with the wheel?
