timing light

can anyone recommend a timing light, for use on my cr750, I am using boyer bransden ignition system, I bought one a few weeks ago, thinking they were all the same, but on opening it, it states not suitable for motorcycles,

agree,  the light reads the time of spark so I don't know why it wouldn't work on motorcycle....larry

Tony, you need to look for an older light without the stupid advance features that all the modern Gunson  types seem to have, just a plain old strobe with inductive pickup is best. Keep an eye out on eBay and try and get an older sun automotive one, it'll be cheaper, probably better put together and it'll work! Good luck :-)

i use this one and now see that it has a "no motorcycles" warning too....  :o

maybe because so many new bike shave now the "coil on cap" thing and it will just not work with it

I believe the issue with inductive pickup timing lights is due to the wasted spark system. Most inductive pick-ups are directional: there is an arrow that should point towards the spark-plug. One lead on each dual coil is the opposite polarity of "normal", so may not trigger the strobe unless the pick-up is reversed.
