Die? Nah...
« on: July 04, 2013, 11:28:21 PM »
Guess what's coming out???

and what's going back in, after 39 years and still going strong!

Tec... that's right! Good old reliable Tec coils the original 39 year old coils!

Here's where the Dyna 3 ohm went...

Coil for 1-2 shorted between HT terminals and  primary terminals. (63.5K ohms)

The Tec coils perform flawlessly.

Reliability trumps performance. I'm celebrating Independance from Dyna day! :)

there oughta be a class action against dyna?those 3 ohm coils fail like #$%*,their units are getting a bad rep aswell, try and get any help and they dont want to know, ive never had any trouble with the old honda coils apart from the ht wire having been miss handled and loose into the housing on the odd few from po,in all fairness ive never had dyna coils but you read so much of it,maybe start a poll and gather a crew on failed dyna products and see if you can all at least tell them they have a #$%* load of pissed of people?ill never own anything dyna just because of what ive read here,,let alone elsewhere on the net!

DAVE!!!   I think the logistics of you being in Australia has a LOT to do with it!!! I installed a DYNA-S in a CB750 about a month ago and it lasted about 5 minutes, both pickup coils died. I called DYNA on it and they said just send it to them and they would send me the new UPDATED DYNA-S( DIFFERENT PICKUPS)  YES they have had a LONG run of bad units but DYNA has been around for a LONG time and with that a reputation to maintain. If they DON'T stand behind their products with a warranty ,they KNOW they won't be around very long!!
AND NO I don't work for DYNA!!

No problem here with my Dyna coils, but I stayed away from the 3 Ohm coils.

I've only been running the same Dyna S ignition and Dyna 3 Ohm coils for 8 years now with absolutely no issues.

This subject comes up on a regular basis so I have to assume that there must be a fault with some Dyna stuff, but it's amazing to me that I've been using their products since the early 1980's on several CB750's and Suzuki GS1000's and I've never had a failure.

Someone sent me a 20 year old Dyna 3 that had failed, so I contacted Dyna to ask them about fixing it (I loved the Dyna 3 that I had on my first F2) but they told me it'd been discontinued, but offered me a new Dyna S for 70 bucks, which I thought was really decent of them. I also bought a new rotor from them for a NOS GS1000 Dyna S that I'd bought on eBay that was missing it's rotor, for $20.00.

As has been said by Chuck, Dyna's after sales service is usually very good, so rather than just chuck your coils in the trash, contact Dyna and see if they won't replace them? When they're working correctly, they'll crap all over Tec coils. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

Hi gang.I have had good performance and reliability from Dyna ignition and coils also. The 750 that I maintain for my computer guru has both installed for the past six years and is a daily driver from April till November.I have the green coils on my 1100F and though it is used sporadically they haved happily hummed for five years now.   Rock On

Just installed a Dyna S on a Honda for the first time and it works great. I'm running Accel coils though. After research there seems to be a run with wires that tend to break. So before you trash your Dyna module check the wires carefully. As far as Dyna warranty service they will bend over backwards for you most of the time so I don't understand why you'd have a problem with them. Can't say about their coils for Honda but the HD coils have a good track record and are the first choice of drag builders.
