final drive seal slipping
« on: July 08, 2013, 06:50:20 AM »
Hello all.
The engine is a CB750 K0. After putting all the bolts to join the crankcases, when I was installing the cylinders and so on, I noticed that the final drive seal had slipped from its hole. I tried to punch it from outside, but I couldn't reach the bottom, so I splitted off the crankcases again. Why did it slip? I put some Threebond 1104 around the seal, expecting that it would seal better, but maybe that was the mistake and I should install it dry. I thought about making sort of a retainer to retain it from the outside of the engine. Anyone had that problem? Thank you.

This is the seal that slips. The manual says 25x62x7. This one lis 25x62x8, but I don't think that it is the problem, because when properly installed it does enter fully on the crankcase.

Hi,

I had that seal back out on one of my K2's.

I siliconed it back in. Judiciously mind you.

No need to goop the hell out of it.
