1974 cb750 clutch gets stuck in neutral
« on: July 08, 2013, 02:56:00 PM »
Today was the third time this has happened. Before it would go back in gear today at the intersection it didn't I had to pull it to the side and tinker with it,finally I had to take the clutch cover off to see what the problem is. What had happened was the clutch lever was stuck as soon as I wiggled it it popped back. I got home and it did it once more. What would cause this I adjusted the cable some more there is still a little slop at the lever on the bars not much though. Should this be snug the cable at both ends

Hi James,

Have you followed the procedure to adjust the clutch?

It should be done prior to adjusting the cable.

The cable should have slight free play when adjusted.

What happens is excessive slack develops in the clutch actuation plate.

When you pull it too far the three little ball races in the clutch actuator go too far and get stuck.

Loosen up the cable, adjust the clutch and then adjust the cable.

Follow the manual.

Thanks I'm getting ready to go do that after I read up on that. Like I stated its done it before the first time about a year ago then again in the last couple of days it was acting funny but I changed the oil (which it was time anyway) and that helped out a lot. the old gal has about 43,xxx on her but she still runs good. Again thanks for the info I need to get on the computer these darn phones make it tough to read some things on them.
