front fork oil seals '82 cb750k
« on: August 07, 2006, 04:20:44 PM »
Hi there all, I recently bought an '82 cb750k that runs great except for the left front fork seal. I've bought the replacement seal, but the mechanic I talked to said I'd also need a new fork boot. Is this true? In addition, the Clymer manual says to take the fork into the dealership, as it's a hydraulic system and they said I needed special tools to service it. Is this true? I found a post about a 650 with an air-pressure fork system like mine that had some suggestions for how to get everything apart without damaging it, but I was wondering if anyone had tried this with a 750? Apparently the '82 750 was the only year to include this hydraulic system in the forks, making it terribly hard to change out the seals. Any advice? Thanks,
d

Looking at the Fiche, the seal is the same as my CB500/550...and the basic system seems the same as my CB550, which I just put seals in... I could be wrong, of course...Someone else here will know...

Offhand, I'd say your Clymer manual  is full of crap. Snap ring pliars would be a nice addition, but it can be done without them. There's a thread around here detailing the Home Depot special seal driver you'll need...The dust boot would be nice, but is not essential...Get another seal, and do the pair...

Definately a home project. Get your son and a 12 pack of beer, and do it yourselves. You'll also need fork oil. And a bucket to catch most (but not all) of the old oil. Plus you'll need something to clean the parts in. Your bathtub would be ideal. But an old turkey broiling pan will do.

Doing it the 2nd time it'll be a breeze.

BTW: How many camshafts in your CB750K??   ;D
