1971 CB350: missing pilot screw washers
« on: May 08, 2013, 09:03:33 AM »
Didn't know if I should post here or in the Wanted section...

Anyways I just bought a CB350 for $400. One of the reasons this bike ran so bad for the PO was that he was missing the o-rings and tiny washers that are under the pilot screws on the carbs.

Anyone have two I can buy? They are not the same as the "newer" style pilot screws, in that they have to go over the threads.

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

I don't believe the pilot screws on these carbs have any washers or o-rings on them.  They only have a small spring.

Probably post in the wanted section.  I have several somewhere on my shop floor ::).  I think the parts are still available if no one here has any.  Try harrisluv, he seems to be selling tons of carb stuff right now...Larry

Sorry, I was wrong.  I had mistaken your request to be for the CB350 Four.  Should have seen that it was 1971 model (the CB350-F only was offered in 1972-74), and you had posted the question in "Other Bikes" section.

Many people have thought the pilot screws on the carbs for the CB350-F should have a washer or seal.  They don't on that model or on the CB400-F.

FWIW, mine have both the washer and o-rings - going for the third set of carbs now, I think I can rebuild them with my eyes closed- and I have been unable to keep the bike idling....

Just to follow-up: I ended up getting some washers that had the correct inner diameter and grinding down the outside so that it would fit in the hole. They didn't need to be perfect - just enough to keep the spring from destroying the o-ring when you turn the screw. Works great so far! :)
