Custom headlight
« on: July 15, 2013, 10:01:57 AM »
I have a CB450 that I want to wire in a smaller custom headlight (5 3/4) but I was wondering where people hide all the wiring since I'm pretty sure the custom ones don't have room in the bucket. I would like to retain all the functionality if I can(blinkers, hi/lo beam, etc.)

Since you are putting a CUSTOM light on it then the rest of the bike isn't stock???

When HONDA built these bikes they OVERBUILT the wiring harness's  with wire loops that go from the headlight bucket back to the tail light then back to the bucket.

I know on the 750s we(chopperheads) will rewire with only 4 or 5 systems and very little wire causing bird nest clusters. You can simplify if you can read wiring schematics and solder wires.
Each circuit should be wired one at a time so you don't get confused .
NOT as hard as you would think!!

Depends of the depth of the shell but you should be able to use the present wiring connections. I put a larger diameter h/l that had a shallower shell on my CB400f-everything fit fine...Larry

Sometimes I wrap the wiring in a black fuzzy velcro enclosure and put it in back of the headlight.

Some factory motorcycle companies hide the wiring in a black plastic box.

What ever you want to do.

got it. so I can essentially "pull" most of the wiring back away from the bucket if I wanted to right?

You could pull it back but then it will be just kinda hanging out there in the open. A little box could be made but would need to be small to fit between/around all the crap directly behind the bucket
