Engine serial ID
« on: August 08, 2006, 06:39:26 AM »
I have looked (searched) and can't find info on CB750F model engine serials. I have a 750E-260XXXX, can someone verify that it's a 77 F2. Any online reference for looking up F series engine serials?
thanks

Hi Gabus,

My engine serial number is CB750E 2614968. You'll note there is no "f" in it, and there is no mention of this/these serial numbers on this august (that's not the month by the way!) website - http://sohc4.us/?q=node/112. And yet my bike has all the "F" hallmarks - the 4-1 exhaust, the finned oil filter cover, the right colour scheme, disc brake on the rear, dual disc on the front, etc. Does your bike have these?

Anyway, I had the same problem, trying to figure out what "breed" of engine/bike I had, until I tried the "Identify my bike" link on the David Silver Spares website... http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/ (the link is on the left of their main page, towards the bottom).

They e-mailed me right back with the information that my bike is a "1978 CB750F2 general export" model - and from what I managed to glean from the previous owner, it was originally sold new in Singapore... so this would seem to be about right... I'm happy thinking I've got a '78 F2 anyway!

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Phil

The F2 engine started at CB750E-2600004. Yours is I believe a 77 F2
F2's imported into the UK for some unknown reason used CB750FE for the engine number, but here in Oz and I believe the US, Honda only used CB750E.
My F2 was a 78 with engine No CB750E-2615045
What is the frame N0?

The numbers i quoted came from the Honda America ID guide book so if its US and an F2 It ought to be CB750FE-***

I have an all orginal (I think) F2, US model. The frame tag is CB750F 210xxxx, the engine is CB750E 260xxxx and it has all the F2 eqiupment (brakes, exhaust, seat etc.)  and was just checking serial numbers for kicks and couldn't find any reference for F models. Looks like 260xxxx is 77 and 261 is 78

If everything was easy and all the books were always correct, what would we have to talk about?

The 1977 F2 frame went from CB750F-2100011 to CB750F-2111489.
The 1977 F2 engine went from CB750E-2600014 to CB750E-2611413
This data comes from a Honda 1977 F2 Parts manual and the numbers listed are specific for the US model. It is the same data as printed in Classic Motor Cycle Mechanics magazine some years ago.
Other regions are somewhat different.
For example in Australia, Honda used CB750G 1000020 as the starting number for the frame and used engine numbers starting from CB750E-2610038
