Alright chaps,

How many square meters of material do I need to make a fibreglass seat?

Thanks in advance,
Bruce

I've been building one for a while now on a different bike and I have lost count on how many layers I have put down already! I know it's more than 5. It will still be flimsy at 3 and pretty rigid at 5, so really it just depends on how many layers you end up with. Are you using a reverse mould or covering something already created? I feel like you could make do with less sq meters with a reverse mould but I'm not sure..

I've done about three seat pans using glass. I use two to three layers of chopped matt and two to three layers of woven. Do it in alternating layers. The woven provides strength, while the chopped matt provides thickness. If you use glass designed for boats, expect to use a lot more resin to saturate the stuff.

I am using a foam/polystyrene base to cover.

I've seen that done before. Be sure to cover it in aluminum tape and wax it first before doing the first layer so it will slide off. Resin eats the foam if you don't, but you probably already read that before. I've been battling getting a nice smooth finish for paint. It's really difficult being that it wasn't a reverse mold, lots of resin "bondo-ing" and sanding..
