I would use Aircraft Remover.

This stuff will take skin off so be CAREFUL. Whatever you do, where safety goggles. I cannot express how toxic this stuff is.

I get it at a local autoparts store. (Pepboys if you have one around.)

It is absolutely amazing.

Put it on the wheel with a chemical proof brush. Get it on nice and thick. Let it do the work and take your time.

I removed paint from my tank and brake reservoir. It will take about 5 minutes and you will see the paint curling.

Keep waiting and keep it on thick. I would do 1/4 of a wheel at a time.

Eventually (20-40 minutes), the paint will roll off with your brush.

No pitting. Spray it off like you mean it with a heavy dose of water.

Johnny out.

Try brake fluid. I have had good results with that.

yes aircraft stripper was the first thing i thought of too. it will burn your skin, so wear gloves and be careful splattering it on your arms. i wa using a few days ago without gloves, and i could feel the burn the rest of the day. stupid.

i have never had it mess up aluminum, but i would say you dont wanna leave it on there over night or anything. if you use it and get it rinsed off when you're done, you should be ok.

I wouldnt think blasting with a less abrasive media wouldnt work.  We use silica and I do aluminumunin all the time.
