Whats size socket for cb500 crank shaft ?
« on: July 22, 2013, 08:06:41 PM »
Hi guys, my set of tools doesn't go past 17mm, I need to buy an extra socket to rotate the crank shaft and set the breaker points. What size is that bolt/washer ?

Thanks

I tried searching here and in both manuals but it doesn't state the size.

monkey wrench/adjustable spanner/shifter,make sure the plugs are removed youll break the lugs, its not really a nut,the small centre bolt holds it on,with the plugs out you can use a 10mm with care.

The big nut is 23 mm. As was said, the 10mm one in the center just holds the big one (and the advance unit) on. Don't attempt to turn the crank by the 10mm nut.

Why don't some people think about that? I guess they don't know where to measure. I say flat to flat across the center. What say you? I would not use that side to rotate the motor. Maybe with the plugs out and never backwards. I use the kicker with the plugs out and use my hand (fist) to bump it around. This is the way my uncle taught me. HondaMan says if you go backwards you stand a good chance of bending the little bolt. That is not a quote but I think I read it in his book. The kicker is just so easy with the plugs out try it you will see.

I always take the plugs out as it's so easy to overshoot the mark due to the compression.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.
