Headlight lo/hi switch
« on: August 11, 2006, 04:10:54 PM »
I'm going through the rats nest in my headlight bucket and have everything working now except the headlight.
My question is, is the Low/High switch actually a dimmer, or is it just a straight up switch. the switch feels like it goes up in a few increments and I the meter only reads about 9-10volts, but everything else has 12ish.

I have to pull the bars off anyway to bend one of back from when it blew over in those storms a few weeks ago(hurricane in St. Louis, imagine that!) so Ill test all on the components/connectors individually.

BTW, is there some generic switch that will fit, or will i need to order the part if its bad?

Thanks, Ryan

If I understand you correctly (and I may not) as far as I know, only one filament at a time is lit in the head light, at least on my K0. The switch position determines which one, high or low.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

That would make sense, I think mine is probably shot because it kind of slides between positions.
Well thanks, I think I'm going to go pull it all apart right now.

Yes. Power is common at the switch and then selected to either filament. the third connection at the headlight is the ground return common to both filaments.

NOT a good idea to straigten bars as they tend to snap which is rather obviously not a good idea! Replace with new and sort out switch. Housing is similar to other models of same year(s) but wiring may have a "Block" connector instead of individual wires

Yeah, I probably will look for a new set of bars, I'll only uses  these long enough to get it on the road.
