new chain

i have a 1978 750f that needs a new chain
the parts guy i called said that it took a real oddball size called a 6-30
its kinda pricey so i'd figured that i would find out if he's right
any info will help

Yes, it has a 630 chain.
You can convert to 530 chain, modern 530 chain is lots stronger than 1970's 630. This makes it a bit lighter, and you'll have more choices in chains. partsnmore has the sprockets, I think JC Whitney may as well. If you like the 630 chain, make sure the sprockets are OK if you replace the chain. Normally I find they are done when the chain is.

the 530 is fine for our bikes. The older 750s had the 530 to start with but chains in those days were too weak. Now a 530 is strong and the 630 is almost unbreakable practically.

Many switch to the 530 as it is lighter and quieter and takes a bit less power to turn. Also more choices in chains and sprockets. and they are cheaper.
