Can't shift gears
« on: September 13, 2013, 03:02:12 AM »
I bought this bike a whole ago and it sat for a while but started and shifted ok.

I tried to start it and shift into neutral but no go.
Drained the glop that the oil had become and put new stuff in but still no good shifting (not that it was that)

I have taken off the gear shaft cover and think the issue is the gear shift side plate that won't move freely. I can't move it so I can put the stopper arm in the slot

How is the clutch in regards to movement, and adjustment?
I would look at this and see if it attributes to the issue your having.

That's my next port of call
I am going to pull the cover in the morning to check if the clutch cable is engaging

Fingers crossed

Not unusual for the 750's to get stuck clutch plates if they have been sitting for a long period. They usually break loose when the engine gets started up and some fresh warm oil gets flowing again. Tying the clutch lever back to handle can help also.  Should still be able to snick the bike in gear though.

When you are trying to put it in gear you do know that rolling the bike a few inches forward will help right?

I would try rolling it around and trying to start the engine to warm it up.

Tried to roll back n forth
The weird thing was I removed the clutch cover and played with the cable and pushed back n forth again (after having changed the goofy oil last week) and she POPPED into neutral

YAYYYYYYY
Thanks for all ideas

Now I only have to deal with the broken gear selector cover I broke, the screws I had to drill out, leaky float bowls, etc etc

Oh forgot front and back brake rebuild, forks etc etc
Butttt I love it

On all the Hondas i have worked on you have to rotate both shafts to move between gears with engine on the bench so just trying to move the gearshift without the engine running or moving the bike just don't work
