CB550 choking
« on: September 15, 2013, 05:22:18 AM »
Hey guys, I have a 1975 CB550. I went on a ride the other day where 80/90mph was the average speed.

For the first 20mins it was fine, but after that it wouldn't let me go above 75/80mph. It would just feel like there was no fuel getting to the engine.

When I stopped at a light the bike stalled, I kicked it over again and it was good to go, no problems.

This happened the last time I rode as well.

Any ideas or pointers before I start working on it?

Thanks

Maybe that's exactly what was happening at those high speeds, and stopping the engine allowed supply to catch up with demand. If the problem continues, try making your high speed run with the fuel cap unlatched. If the issue is eliminated, the cap's vent is partially plugged. If that's no help, look for kinks or other restrictions in the fuel lines, and check the petcock filter screen inside the tank. If you have aftermarket fuel filters installed, remove them.
