Is it worth it?
« on: October 09, 2013, 08:28:25 PM »
Browsing Craig's list today and noticed an 80 dollar cb750 for parts.  After talking to the owner the lower case has a one inch hole in it.  Is starting with no motor or at least no bottom end worth the 80$ price tag? He said it does turn over and the frame seems clean, just questioning the value here? I'm new and if this isn't the right place I apologize, just looking for some guidance!

It has a motor just has a hole in it. might be able to fix for 200 or less if you can do the work yourself. You can sometimes find motors for cheap.  Its worth that for parts..more if it has reggie

You have a bike, top part of engine but no lower part? Why not look for a complete bike?

If you are planning on working on it yourself and have a little mechanical ability I'd say grab it, and look for another one too. A parts bike can be a valuable asset when rebuilding an old bike. Many parts interchange from year to year 1969 through 1978 on the 750's. I don't think I've ever seen a complete one that wasn't worth $80.
If you would rather have a rider now for more $$ keep looking.

If you are a tinkerer, or want a project you will finish, and it has a title/transferable reggie/proof of ownership for the state then jump on it. Think of it as a titled frame with extras
When people say sale for parts it usually means no title

Have you seen it? Is it something that got pulled out of the bottom of a lake after 30 years.

Why is there a one inch hole in the case and where is the hole? Did it toss a chain? and break the case? It could be fixed or it something more involved?

I do not think you can go wrong for $80. The best I ever did was a $100 K4 parts bike...and it had a title. If the bike is pretty much complete go for it. And if it comes with a title you are in good shape.

If it comes with a title it is absolutely worth it. A frame and title are easily worth $100+ to someone who lives in a state where title is difficult to get.
