Hi, I have an old 1980 CB650 Custom that Im working on rebuilding the carbs. I bought a set of rebuild kits for the right year and whatnot for them but got the wrong seals. This was off the old bike barn website.  After doing some research I found a set of rebuild kits on the parts n more website that appeared to have the right shape seals but they were for the 1977-1978 CB750.

Were these carbs interchanged between the 2 bikes possibly? They are Kei Hin carbs.

Here are some links to the sites and listings:

The Set I bought for the bike, 2nd listing down from the top: http://www.oldbikebarn.com/motorcycle_parts.php?subcategory=Carb%20Rebuild%20Kits&bike=CB650

The set I found on Parts N More: Also the 2nd listing from the top: https://www.partsnmore.com/cat_index.php?model=cb750_sohc&category=carb

So my question is, is the set from parts n more the right set?? as far as I can tell from the pictures, the bowl gasket, top gasket and needle apear to be the same as the ones from the bike but Im not sure about the rest of them. And I do believe they are the right carbs for the bike because I have another bike the same year and model for parts and it had the same carbs.

Any info on this topic would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Brian

Ahh, the OBB screws yet another customer.

I would trust parts n' more over OBB any day, but you gotta be careful if you mix n' match from different years/models.

Have you tried these guys?  They've always been pretty honest with me...

On this site you will find the parts diagrams for all the Honda's. It shuold be possible to find out if the carbs for the models in question are using the same seals by comparing the parts numbers.

'79 and '80 had PD piston valve carbs... '81 and '82 had the VB model constant velocity carbs.

Daniel, Dan is right about the year models. And the European 650Z had the PD carbs during all the pruduction years from November  1978 till February 1982.

I checked the parts # on the seal kits in the Honda parts list, and they are not the same for the 650 and 750 carbs though, but you can buy a seal kit for the 650 PD carbs from http://www.mrcycles.com
It is parts #:  GASKET SET 16010-426-305, and the price is $34.33.

i also have a 1980 honda cb 650 custom. and i am going through the same thing. but i was told before hand that i shouldn't buy from obb. i goto partsfish and look up part numbers and then goto service honda and compair parts and prices! nothing beats factory honda parts!(at a discount) but your o rings can be purchased from any oring set as i have learned. and unless you have a leak in a gasket i wouldn't recommend fixing it if it isn't broke! these bikes are great bikes but they are notorious for reoccuring problems.

I would not be surprised if it turns out that the seals for the 750 and 650 carbs are interchangeable.  :)
