CB750 carbs on CB550
« on: August 21, 2006, 09:59:24 AM »
Has anybody put 750 carbs on their 550 ?

If so where do I go as far as jetting and needle position ?

Thanks in advance
Brian

No idea on the jetting. But my CB500 had a set of 750 carbs on it when I bought it. It wouldn't start (luckily - long story), but the plugs were sooty black...   ::)

PO said it ran fine with them...yeah, OK...   ;D

Brian,

I don't know anyone that made them work really well on the street , but if it's for track use maybe it'll be easier to dial them in. I read that Rob Lloyd suggested to start with 120 mains, needle clip second from the top and one size leaner pilots. He also suggests the underside of a 500/550 tank will need some gentle persuasion (read hammer) to help make these carbs fit.

Let us know how things turn out.

Yes, it's for my race bike

I got a set of 750 carbs with the bike which were never in stalled and would like to give them a go

I'll set them up as mentioned and give them a go, I figure it should be a low cost mod

Thx,
Brian

In what class do you run, that you can make this change. I missed the vintage weekend at Mosport, did you race there?

CB550 is most competitive in middleweight production but can also run period 3 lightweight superbike

Carbs are not a concern in either class, just displacement and engine configuration

Mosport was a blast I ran both classes and it was unbelievable, Mosport is one of the first class race tracks in North America and still is

You're right about Mosport, great track, spent many action packed weekends there. Seems like a long time ago.
