Help identify connector on air chamber/plenum box
« on: August 22, 2006, 09:16:10 AM »
Does anyone know what is supposed to be connected to the tube? connector coming out of the bottom of the plenum chamber.
I'm about to replace my carb boots and plenum chamber and found this not connected to anything while removing it in preparation
for this weeks (hopefully) installation.

Looks like it would defeat the purpose of an air filter by being open to the air with no filtration like it was. Not to mention sucking in lots of air.

Any ideas?

thanks,
jason

Sorry, left the bike info out.Its on a '76 CB550K, (diagram is for an F) but their mostly the same.)

The blow by gas tube connects to #17 which connects to #23 which connects to the bottom of the air filter holder/box.

Is this a California bike? Could it be some superfluous piece of plumbing only relevant on bikes for there?

Come to think of it, did they make Californai spec bikes in those days??

It's meant for the breather hose, but with a piece of hose and a funnel, you could have RAM AIR!

It has just ordinary rubber pipe on there to drain any water out. No valve in the end I think its just cos its a long pipe that keeps the air cleaner in business.

I'll hunt down a longish tube for it then.
I guess I could route it along with the overflow hoses.
This part is supposed to be in when I get home from work and then I can put my bike back together and get ready for the weekend.
keep your fingers crossed for the fedex delivery.
peace!

It looks like it was hooked up to the intergrated cathode retarder unit near the H.E.I.U..(High Energy Ignition Unit)
This then enables the retro fitted fusion induction link to be enabled in the CMFEU.
If that does not work then turn on the boost fuel.
But having diagosed that, its probably a breather from the reduction box.
If all else read the instructions!!!

Solution confirmed!!!! ;D
The new part arrived yesterday, and guess what? It had a long rubber hose hooked up to the mystery connector.
So, I routed it down to where my center stand used to be.
Now I can get a decent carburator balancing done after putting it all back together.

peace,
jason
