Yeah, the flap is flat black.

The filler flaps I've seen on the 550F and '77 400F were flat black too.

i didn't know this about the stock SS paint job my focus having been relegated to earlier models so far...

on my SS cafe tank i've painted the inside of the well glossy red - the rest of the tank is black (for now)

i'm watching this tank - i expect to see it dissapear with a whimper at the end of the auction - it'll be interesting to see if he relists at a lower BIN price...

Yeah, mine also have an unpainted semi-flat black gas cap panel, along with that useless warning sticker. As Homer Simpson said "see, because of me, now there's a warning".
 
The tank on ebay is worth about $300, but since it has a tiny scratch so...is it worth repainting?

I'll be watching if he lowers the price too...

At that price, he's going to be further in debt.

He need to lower it down to about $200 if he wants any takers. Fortunately I don't need one but I am looking for another one in less mint condition for $20 so I can convert it to look bit like the one from CR750, which means plugging up the gas cap panel and installing a stock flip-up cap on a side. I bought several spare stock 1969-1974 CB750K tanks (1975-76 CB750K tanks had fuel cocks on the left side) for $20 each and they were all in good condition. Only needed good sanding and repaint, two didn't even require bondo.
