If you're good 2 maybe 3 flavours, as long as you stop beating your wife and child, kick the dog instead.

Well I suppose you don't get a dog and bark yourself.

A bit creepy cuddling the dog at night, but you never know with mountain men from the Ozarks.

Banjo player by chance?

Connection made to the main wiring loom.

Next re-wrap the wiring on the electric plate.

I read somewhere about the orientation of the metal clutch plates that they should be installed with the 90° edge either facing inwards or outwards. I reinstalled the plates with all the 90° edges towards the engine.

I really can't see how it makes much difference as the edge with the radius is facing the rear of the cork plates.

Can someone point me to that tip (from Hondaman I think), I looked but couldn't find it.

Installed new handlebars, photos later, the flat bars were 2" too narrow, the brake lines were resting on the fork nut and I wanted to turn the bars further down but couldn't.

Hey Mick,

I believe you have done it as it was recommended in that article... with the cut (90 degree) edge towards the bike.

More importantly I'd rather take a Toffee-Pop over a Tim-Tam ;)

You'll get a tooth ache. But it's nice to know I installed them correctly, it was always going to be 50-50 if it was right.

After looking everywhere and not finding any definitive answer. Electrics aren't my strength.

Two really dumb questions.

Where does the earth/ ground wire go onto?

And where does the positive wire go?

The ground wire at the engine end is actualy the last thing before the nut on the rh rear removable engine mounting plate BUT there must be no paint or powder coat on either side of that bracket where the cable and engine casing touch or you will not get a decent ground. see the attached photos of a NOS 550 mounting

Thank you gentlemen but my bike is a 500 and doesn't have the mount like SohRon's (I did look at his build but didn't find a clear answer for my question). Where does the earth go? On the engine?

Do 2 wires coming off the solenoid go to the starter and the electric plate as per the photo below?

Mick, the only difference on the 500 is it does not have the cable mount, paint removal and ground fitting are the same

BJ thanks and I realise that, what I'm more concerned about where exactly does the earth mount onto the engine mount or frame.

Like I said the cable is last thing to fit before the nut on the mounting bolt mate

BJ thanks but I'm still in the dark exactly where the earth connects to on the 500, Cal's photo wasn't clear to me.
Does it connect to the engine? as the cable doesn't want to bend readily.

Also

I'm aware the positive cable comes from the battery to the solenoid, terminal, does the red wire connect on the same solenoid terminal as the starter motor?

I can get you a pic of my 500 at the weekend but not before but as i ramember it the ring terminal goes on so that it is squashed to the outside of the mounting plate by the nut on the stud/bolt that goes all the way through from the other side whilst the cable goes up the frame tube. If you have the Genuine Honda manual there are pictures on pages 22 and 23 that show you, also there is a picture posted by calj737 that is good.

from your pic the ground lead is a made up one with not the correct ends on so it will never fit neat and tidy mate

Still on the solenoid, here is a closer look at the red wire that splits into 2 ways and the starter lead I believe should go on top of the 2 way split red wire?

Check out this schematic, shown in hand drawn.

It doesn't show the 2 connections (black and red) coming from the middle of the solenoid.

I looked at OTP's last photo and it looks like the way I describe it as above?

Tell me am I correct?

Hey Mick, let me know if these help you. I can grab you some more pictures tomorrow if need be.

Here you've got the starter going to the left side of the solenoid also attached there is the fuse connection. On the right side is the positive lead for the battery.
(EDIT: fuse connection is on the right side with the battery lead)

On the opposite side of the bike you've got the negative battery ground lead coming off of the the rear engine hanger bolt.

OTP thanks for your help, I think the solenoid is correct? Your earth is blurry and I can't tell on the iPhone.

A couple of more photos would be great.
