Introduction and Carburetor issue
« on: November 16, 2013, 06:38:34 AM »
I was very happy to find this site.  I got my first SOHC in 1969 (a 750K0) and my second in 1971 (a K1), and after a long search I recently bought a 1978750F3.    It is good to have a place to meet other SOHC devotees.   I got my first bike in 1968, a 1967 HD Sprint 250 and over the years have owned a number of different brands, but mostly Honda, and the old Single Cams are about as good as it gets.  My Avatar is "precious pooch" Sam.  She is a "Pound Puppy", and over the last couple of years has become my shadow.  Next to messing about with bikes, I enjoy my time with my dog.

Now for the carb part.  As with most old timers, this 750 ran when I bought it, but not as well as it could.  It had a rough and erratic idle.  After a short ride the other day it would not idle at all below 2000rpm.  When I pulled the carbs to clean and rebuild, I found out why.  Three of the four idle mixture screws were turned out to about 4 to 5 turns.  The fourth screw just wasn't there at all.  It obviously is now somewhere on a South Carolina roadside.  If anyone see's it, please tell it to come home.  It is terribly missed.

Meanwhile, I am looking for a spring and idle mixture screw for a Keihin PD42A carburetor.  I have checked the Honda carburetor components microfiche on a couple of supplier's sites, but do not see those parts anywhere.

The good news is that the carbs are not that dirty, and I think a good cleaning and the packing kits and accelerator pump kit will have it tachin' 10,000 again.  Buuuut.....I still need to find an idle screw and spring.

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

Raymo
