Greetings! A brief(?) Intro:
I've always been into muscle cars, street rods, drag racing etc.. But I was only ever moderately interested in my Dad's Harleys. Fast-forward 25 years, and my recent obsession with CB750s has taken me totally by surprise. I must've seen one in a Viagra commercial, or something.
Anyway, I quickly found my way to this forum, and picked up Hondaman's book...HUGE thanks to all of you guys for one of the best forums on ANY topic!!! It definitely factored into my decision to choose a CB, even though I live 2 blocks from a Ducati dealer.
Funny that while looking for a cafe victim, I came across a CB750K2 locally, that's a carbon copy of the bike in Hondaman's book. I just got the keys this morning, and it's so pretty that I can't bring myself to cut it up! There goes the cafe plan...at least for my first bike.
The bike is a 100% stock, unrestored original with 17K miles. It hasn't been licensed in 10 years, and it came with all of the fuel system problems you'd expect from a bike that's been stored for that long. It's also got a sticky front caliper. Otherwise, it's super-clean. It actually does run well, and sounds beautiful despite a rough idle and that stale gas smell.
Winter plans include full rebuild of the fuel and brake systems, new wheel bearings, tapered roller steering bearings, new tires and whatever else turns up. I'll do a full frame-off later on, but not until the new garage is built sometime next year. Until then, it's whatever I can drag up and down the basement steps!
