9-11 observence
« on: September 01, 2006, 11:22:05 PM »
I belong to the local American Legion and Legion Riders and recieved the following email. I thought it would be good to pass on to others.

Email:
To All Riders,

I wanted to make sure that you all were aware of a National Obserance of the September 11, 2001 tragedy of the World Trade Center Towers.

On September 11th this year, we as a Nation have been asked to show our patriotism by flying the American Flag.  If you have a mount on your home or a flag pole or even if you just stick a pole in the ground, be sure to proudly display our National Ensign.

Remember, if you leave your colors up beyond sunset, have proper lighting on the flag or retire the colors for the evening.  I know that mine will be flying high from my flag pole.

Very Respectfully,

(Name removed), USCG, Retired
Director

As an American and a New Yorker, I thank you for your kind words. I stood with my son on a hilltop and we watched the Towers come down. He was crying, and I know he will never forget what he saw that day. It was not buildings they were trying to destroy, it is a way of life they attacked. You folks from England understand, but I think most Europeans don't. In the 1930's a little man with a bad haircut and mustache rearmed his Country and his neighbors stood by and watched until it was too late. History does repeat itself. While I am not a fan of the Iraq mess, I am a fan of finding the real bad guys and taking them out. History tells us that bad guys just don't go away.

But we were boys, and boys will be boys, and so they will. To us, everything was dangerous, but what of that? Had we not been made to live forever?

I will def take a moment and remember that day. One local FD here is holding their ground breaking cerimony for their new hall on that day for that reason. I may be canadian but i have a feeling project K4 will recieve some sort of graphic in rememberance of 9/11 just because i became a firefighter just after the events of that day.
