Wow, that's half the size I would have thought.  Is "cross screw" the same as Phillips Head?

Ernie, when you replace those, make sure you do not use screws that are longer than necessary. I did once and they jammed the rotor. next time I went to start the bike, it wouln't turn over and I thought it had siezed. It was quite a time before I discovered the problem.

Thanks guys.  Just got back from Lowes and the smallest they have is 6-32 with a straight slotted head.   Maybe some Gorilla snot and a little tap with a small hammer...

Smallest Lowe's had was a 6-32! what is the world comming to. Don't get me wrong I like Lowe's for there prices, hours and helpfull staff (for loading things into my truck at least), but when it comes to little things and obscure items, you cant beat a good "Mom & Pop" type hardware store. You Know, the kind with a bunch of their items stocked in weird places like in old wooden draws, or in a stairwell. Usually these are Do-It Best (formally HWI) or True Value stores. Everyone should find a store near them. They seem to always have what you need, and if they don't most places will look through multiple books and call several suppliers to  try to find it for you. You just cant beat that kind of service.

BTW, you probably know, but 6-32 is a "standard" and probably wont thread right into that metric hole. Try a mom and pop place if you can find one, I know the Do-It Best retailer by me, Biener Hardware, has 4mm, and as far as small standard machine screws go, their smallest is 4-40.

4mm thread 12mm long with a Phillips head (curved), it’s not rocket science.   ;D

Those mom&pop hardware stores are great.  I buggered the screw holding the speedo cable into the speedo drive on the axle and couldn't find a screw from the big places.

So I popped into a mom&pop store and they HAD the right size!!  The only problem was the head was flat and not rounded, but, on the upshot, it was stainless steel, so I didn't have to worry about that zinc-plated crap.

Stainless forever!
