I saw the Snowbirds only once in the 80's in Redding, Ca. air show. They were cool to watch but nothing like The Blue Angels. I saw them many times at different air shows. They are awesome to watch.

It was the Blue Angels , or Golden Hawks, came over main street, low pass, sonic BOOMed, and blew out every window on main (Bernard Ave).. 1968 I think.. Went to see it what a mess..

About 71 or 72 the blue angels were here for an airshow. They were attracting attention on friday afternoon by zooming around town. A group of us were standing outside the factory doors waiting for starting time. One of the pilots saw us, went out of sight and flew a big circle. Then he came up behind us inverted, low and making smoke. Scared the crap out of all of us.  He was so low I could see him laughing behind his helmet and mask.

Had much the same thing happen to me walking along the flight line at Comox which is in valley anyhow schlepping along the flight line with my tools in hand to do an preflight on one of the A/C, yelled at couple guys on an areo stand that were working on a elevator, waved at a buddy on the back of a Neptune checking out an antenna and generally taking in the sights and sounds of a squadron doing maintenance, a nice summer day in other words no one hyper alert. A #$%*ing great noise my heart skipped a beat and I imagined that the "BOMB" had been dropped no, no flash, what the hell looked up and saw a speck get instantly larger and huge #$%*ing noise, we've been attacked saw the guys on the areo stand bailing off the speck had come and gone turned another speck no so low and gold colored the goddam Golden Hawks had just announced they were here to practice for an air show. Show offs scaring the piss out the poor airmen. Yes one of the pilots flipped us the bird at nil feet so same thing Don.

I'm curious if the Blue Angels are going to give up their F/A-18's for F-35s?  Might open up so many more stunt options for them.

Same thing for the Air Forces's Thunderbirds - give up those Falcon's and replace them with F/A-22s.

I've seen the F/A-22s practice over Edwards AFB and impressive doesn't even begin to describe the maneuvers they do.

That would be the "Canadian" Air Force Snowbirds. I only saw them once. If I remember correctly...there were 9 of them. They aren't "FAST & LOUD" like the Blue Angels though.....and the Blue Angels were only flying 6!!
I kinda grew up with the Blue Angels in the 60's. I lived in San Jose,Sunnyvale, And Mt, View which is where Moffet Field is. You would constantly hear sonic booms. I don't remember what year they made them stop but I was in Sunnyvale in 65' (8 years old) and remember them well. We could always see the air shows from home. The last time I recall seeing them was late 80's in Redding, Ca. We paid $2 to park in a field right in line with the runway. That was the sh!t when they took off.
