75 gl 100 front end questions
« on: September 03, 2006, 12:21:58 PM »
Howdy fellers, it's been awhile. been lurking and working my ass off.
I now have a near complete '75 gl 1000 front end(missing L side rotor). I'm sticking it on my '73 750 and vaguely remember something about the top bearing needing to be for the 750 and the bottom bearing needing to be a Gl1000 set.
I've gone through the FAQS and cannot seem to pinpoint this, just wondered if any of you fine gentlemen could clear this up or point me to a post that would do the same.

Thanks all
I farted and made my son cry.

The Gl front end on my 78750K is held in with tapered bearings specced for the Gl.  It was complete kit with upper& lower bearings and I believe a spacer washer.  It was not the All Balls kit but rather one I ordered from Dennis Kirk about five years ago.  My only dissapointment was the kit did not come with a grease seal but it doesn't seem to be oozing out too much gunk.  I do remember reading in a post a good bit back about the need for mixing bearings but as far as I can tell that was misinformation. Good luck and make sure that your GL caliper pistons are in good shape as I have yet to see one that wasn't rusted to sh##.  I had someone make me a set of stainless ones which seem to work nicely.  Oh and the Progressive Suspension fork springs for the GL are a worthwhile upgrade.
