does anyone know if the bottom trees (and post) from a '76 500T fit on a '72 500??

Well it may fit, but the offset is greater with the 500T, (distance from steering axis to fork center)  The width (fork center to fork center) is the same. I wouldn't make the swap, it'll throw the steering geometry way out. Another 500 four steering stem can be found easily if you need it.

yah i need it. the threads at the top of the pipe are stripped and i cannot find anyone around my city that can do a metric thread that big.
