CB500 left Hand control
« on: January 04, 2014, 12:49:30 PM »
Does anyone have a pic of the innards of a LH control for a cb500. It only houses the blinker and horn switch. Mine came in a Baggie and needs to be reassembled

Those pics are great. So does the ball bearing go inside the spring?

It sits between the ball and the white plastic square. It's what forced the ball into the triangle groove and gives your switch the distinctive click.

I reckon that switch will be rat#$%*, there will be a lot of slack / play in the indicator lever due to the plastic gump being worn. Check this out here, best value you'll get for a newy. http://www.yamiya750.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=123&products_id=1926

$35 sure is an awesome price for this part!

Yep, January special, I just bought both L&R, the right side is twice as much but still worth it, and they are tec made. I pulled both of my switches apart, cleaned and lubed but you can't fix the worn parts n mine are both very sloppy in the feel, really glad I saw the special on the new ones.

I paid over $200 for an OEM 40 year old new one - the only difference is it doen't say "turn" on the top and has "made in japan"  in raised lettering cast into the bottom
edit- I didn't realize when I bought it but it also doesn't have the high beam flasher in the horn button unlike the correct part for my 500.

Mine doesn't have the "turn" either and also has the hi beam flasher but I figure I can live without the flasher for the price.

Can I assume these will work on a CB400f also? That is a pretty good price for new parts.

Yes mate, it was a real trial of patience when I did my old ones, the looseness of the levers was a big disappointment though, I figure I'll now have the old ones as spares, good for nothing really.

I wonder how hard it would be to convert my new one's horn button to my old ones horn/pass(highbeam) switch... since my handlebars have internal wiring and it would need an extra wire run I think I'm not gonna try that one any time soon!

What if I just epoxied the little white knob to fill in the spots where it was worn down? Won't that bring back the "click"?

I assume it would just take identifying which wires on the controls were for which wires on the harness to match them up. They may not be the same colors. but do the same function. I hope that is true because that place doesn't show anything for 400's and I need to  replace both on mine.

Used a piece from a thumb tack and epoxied it in the hole.

It can be done with a schematic and a bit of patience. You are right in that all you need to do is identify the proper harness wires and connect to the switch.  I have put those older prelights-on-all-the-time style controls on a 75 400F

That looks pretty good, the only question is, will it last? As was said, nothing like new switches.

I'm not giving up yet. The new switch is nice, but free fix is nice too.
