CB 550 swing arm width
« on: January 20, 2014, 05:53:33 PM »
Looking for an alternative swing arm to use in my 67 CB450 resto-mod.

I found a 550 swing arm on eBay that looks good for cheap  but would like to know width across the pivot bearing tube.  The 450 is about 200mm [7 7/8"]

Thanks!

Confirming: you want the overall width of the pivot tube? (Measuring the inside width of the frame against the width of the swing arm for fit?

Yes the dimension that would fit into the frame for the pivot bolt to go thru.

Thanks

That's about the same as my 750,  would require cutting the 450 frame :-\.

Thanks!

If I am scaling correctly, the width where the swing-am passes the rear foot peg mounts would hit also.

I have 2 extra swing arms from past projects already.  ::)

I want to build a Cafe like bike, not putting true clipons on it so I am saying "like".

Have the front end from a 2012 CBR250 on the original frame now.

Would like to use a matching Rear wheel which will not fit the stock swing arm.  It needs more clearance at the tire even if I put a 120 on the rim instead of the 140 that the250 cam with.

This is what the bike looked like when I rescued it from a barn in Goshen NY.

Finding parts to do a proper restore was to stressful!

Yes I thought I would adapt a set of rearsets to the original rear peg mounts.

Sounds good I'll keep you posted.

I believe a 1" extension of the stock swing arm would allow me to mount the 140 tire I have.  I am going to draw up the plug extensions tonight, see if I can get a local machinist to make them for me.
