550 vs. 750 Tank Badges
«

Does anyone know if tank badges from a 750 will work on a 550 tank? This is not going for a full blown resto, so using more common(readily available) parts will save me some headaches. When I got the bike the tank badges were gone and the area filled with bondo and painted over. Slowly breathing some new life into this bike and I certainly prefer the look of badges rather than going with decals. Anyone know if they fit? The badges I am thinking of have the 2 metal pins on the back that are secured by small clips to the tank.

If the tank has filler where the badges go, it won't matter. You can just trim the tabs off the backside and use some good double-sided tape.
I don't know for sure, but I'd guess that the 550 badges would be a few millimeters smaller.

You can get lots of different types new from Ebay. I think they are adhesive backed. e.g.

It depends on the years and models. Check your microfiche for part numbers to be sure. I think the 76 550K emblems fit a earlier model 750K or something like that.

Thanks for the replies. I got all the old cracking paint and bondo off the tank and was hoping to pick up some cheap used badges off eBay to restore to presentable shape. I'm going to be repainting the tank first and thought it would be best to use the stock attachment system. I'll have to check into the distance between posts to see if they are the same.
11.3 cm or 4.5 inches from center to center on the tank mounting tab holes.
