Forgot to introduce myself...
« on: September 06, 2006, 09:11:42 PM »
Hello,

I already posted 2 messages - and have been a member for over a month, lurking around like a creep.  My name is Peter, I live in Toronto and I've had a 1979 CB650 for almost 3 months.  It rides, but has some rough parts that I still need to work on.  So far, I've managed a complete front brake rebuild as the fr. brake piston was rusted into place - and this is the first time I've ever attempted any automotive/bike work in my life.  Sure, I've held the flashlight for my dad and brother many times, but I was never allowed to do any real work.  I've haven't got around to updating my profile just yet, but soon enough...

I've got the same bike, as you will see from my avatar. Had it since May and love it (9,500km on it since then). I also have the Honda workshop manual, so let me know if you need any help.

nickjtc: 9500km?  That's amazing.  I wish I could ride it that much - I spend more time fixing it than riding it.  Perhaps next summer will be a happier one...

list of things left to fix is long though..leaking shifter pedal, leaky forks, bent front wheel, leaky carbs, crappy aftermarket handlebars are too low for me, the neutral light works intermittently...I'm sure I'm forgetting something.  Either way, I still ride it waiting for another major breakdown... Somehow I still enjoy it though.

This forum is a phenomenal resource. They look after your practical, technical and philosophical needs, as well as being a funny bunch of people. Some of them get a bit serious though!

Use eBay. I've got a lot of stuff for all of my bikes there. Set your favourites in eBay to CB650 and you'll get an email every day with the new stuff being listed.

Your local Honda dealer is a good resource too.

Think about joining the VJMC. Taps you into a vast source of info. and bits.
