79 CB650 - oil stop lamp
« on: February 11, 2014, 06:28:48 PM »
So my bike runs fine. Was riding it home and the oil stop lamp came on and bike started acting like it was out of gas. Got it home, next day checked the oil and it was LOW! So I put in more oil and an oil treatment (vii) and it runs fine and has for over 100 miles.

Engine sounds fine but the oil stop lamp won't turn off? Maybe it's bad wiring or pressure valve? What do I do? Should I stop riding it? Bad oil pump?

Thanks for the help!

Under the left case/chain cover is the oil pump with oil pressure sending unit.
Make sure the wire is securely attached to the sending unit. Check the wire for any indication of being pinched, or damaged when the case cover was installed.

Also check the connector to the main wiring harness. The oil pressure, and neutral light wiring get combined with the main alternator harness. This is know to be a problem with corrosion buildup. Make sure it is clean, and tight. If the connector looks burnt, or damaged. Replace it.
