I would recommend HP

I have an HP as well, it was cheap.  About $100 or so, it prints, copies and scans.    Faxes too, but who does that any more?   I use it for work, so they pay for all the ink and paper.

I'm a Ph.D student in Civil, and occasionally I'm order supplies (cement, sand, etc.) from suppliers. You would be amazed how often they require me to fax them some paperwork. Also, I still use floppy discs!
