Need to make a header-to-muffler gasket

My XL250 has an exhaust leak where the muffler meets the header. Evidently there's supposed to be a gasket there:



These are NLA and the one that has shown up on ebay in the past month is $30, and we can't afford that for our $500 Challenge bike. Here's a pic of it though:


Any ideas of what we can use here? My Goldwing has a crossover between the pipes that uses a similar gasket but it's the wrong size. What do you think it's made out of? Our current plan is to shim it with a couple of layers of beer can aluminum; not sure if that'll do it though.
If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

Our local Honda dealer had mine in stock 750 F , it is a wrapped aluminum material with some kind of coating on it,,Go to Auto Zone and look in the muffler area , They have Aluminum exhaust Repair wrap that i cut into 2" strips and used on my collector-to-mufller on my custom exhaust on my other bike.....it worked lol  :P
