Shock studs, no grab bar; acorn nuts?
« on: April 18, 2014, 02:09:03 PM »
Okay, so like a lot of you, I'm not running the stock grab bar anymore. That means the shock studs are now too long for just the stock acorn nut, which is M10×1.25.

I don't want to cut the shock studs, for sake of originality. I don't want to use just regular nuts either, I prefer the finished look of acorn nuts. I don't want to use a bunch of spacers because it looks rigged.

I tried McMaster-Carr, but all they have are M10×1.5 acorn nuts. I tried google to find deep/"high crown" acorn nuts, and could only find standard.

What do y'all do for this? Will I just have to order new acorn nuts from Honda and use a spacer? If that's the simplest route, I need help finding a spacer. Preferably stainless or aluminum. I tried searching McMaster-Carr, but I couldn't manage to find anything, because I'm sure I was doing it wrong.

Those are 1.5 (coarse) instead of the 1.25 (fine) that he needs.  Carpentercreek.us has them on feebay but I think they only have one left.

These guys might be an option but pricey as well.

I used two thick stainless flat washers buffed the edges and outside one. Found them at Lowes. You could use a stainless pipe nipple cut to fit buff it and use the stock acorn.

Over here in the UK the original 500/4 did not have a grab bar, only a lifting handle on the left, so on the right side they fitted a extra thick washer to make up the difference and used the standard nut. I think the original part is still available from Honda via David Silver.

This may be correct. Plus mine is a 750 and did not have a bumper lift or grab bar when I got it.
