CB550 Gear Shift Lever Length
« on: April 26, 2014, 06:30:56 AM »
Hey guys, for those who remember I got in a little accident where the gear shift lever was bent (among other things) and the shop that fixed it said that they just bent my lever back into place. But now it feels like the lever is too close to the stator cover. My toes rub on it and almost get hung up sometimes. I've been referring to my older pictures and it seems like this lever is actually longer. He did say that he had a spare 750 lying around...I'm thinking he just threw that lever on instead. Is the stock 750 shift lever longer than the 550?

The lever on my 750 is 5.25" long, overall.  My 550 is not currently here, so can't measure that.

I measured mine and it's 5.25" too. I wonder if the 550 is shorter. Maybe I'm just an idiot but my first reaction after riding it after having been fixed was that it was different.

Here are a couple pictures.

5" from bolt though I don't know if this is original as it's been repaired.

Yours is different at the shaft. Is it positioned too high?

'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

I just moved it down a notch and that helps a bit but still closer than I remember to the stator cover. Oh well, I'll have to ride it around and see if I can get used to it.

Thanks guys.
