Fuel filter gasket?
« on: April 28, 2014, 09:13:12 AM »
Hi,

I took my carbs out over the weekend and noticed a part that was new to me, under the air filter. It's soaked with fuel so I assume it's the fuel filter. The filter does not look great anymore and seal/gasket is not the right size.

I found the seal with cmsnl (17351390780) but I was hoping that there is a source in the US that sells these. Also where do you get the spongy part?

Also, I found a clear tube underneath my battery box (the box has a pre made hole for the tube) which did not seem to be connected. Where should this tube be connected to?

Thanks,
Felix

It would help if we knew what bike. I'll take a guess at a 77/78F or K and suggest that the additional filter you're on about is the filter for the crankcase emissions system. Small black round thing with rubber pipes coming off it? One to the top of the airbox? Shouldn't be wet with fuel, but may be well oily. You can live without it, unless you care about the environment.

The clear tube should be connected to the breather pipe on the top of your battery. Plumb it away from anything on the bike so you don't get any acid damage.

So I guess that part is important?
Can I get away with just ordering the seal from the Netherlands?

I think I understand it a little bit better now after seeing this diagram.

So I guess a new seal is probably good to get the full functionality.

great diagram!  CB750's have a similar unit.

YES its needed...but they are listed as NLA (no longer available)
If you dont want to spend a bunch for one overseas...you could probably make one ;)

Wow it's ~$45 shipped. Ouch.
How would you go about making on? Just cut the current one to the right size? Maybe glue it together?
